Connecting people through art Transcending
boundaries and making a connection...art has always been a powerful
medium that connects everyone in a shared language of beauty,
inspiration and creativity.
Through nurturing the arts, Nokia aims to make a connection amongst
today's youth as well as nurture the growth of their spirit of
creativity. We have chosen to focus first on youths as they are
universally reconised as the people who hold the future in their
hands.
They also require the greatest support as they take initial steps
to explore their talents, aspirations and vocations in life.
In 1999, we established the Nokia Arts Awards Asia Pacific as
an annual programme to celebrate the human mind's innovative,
artistic and creative spirit. Comprising local and regional awards,
local art exhibitions, public workshops and international educational
grants, this integrated programme now covers 14 markets in the
region.
Inspired by the human mind's boundless creativity and energy,
the term "Playground" evokes images of youth and activity,
a sense of growth and learning through play and exploration.
At the same time, it speaks of the ageless zest for life and
constant learning that lives in innovative minds and spirits.
The theme for Year 2000, "Playground of Your Imagination",
was created to pose a unique challenge to students aged between
17-25 years across the 14 markets. Inspired by the human mind's
boundless creativity and energy, the term "Playground"
evokes images of youth and activity, a sense of growth and learning
through play and exploration. The theme also speaks of the ageless
zest for life and constant learning that lives in innovative
minds and spirits.
In the following pages, these young artists will offer us precious
insight into the playgrounds of their imaginations. Expressed
vividly through a collection of highly experimental and creative
art pieces, they promise to take you on very personal and rich
journeys. Join us as we explore their unique visions.
