My 60 Years Tributary Exhibition Assoc. Prof. Vichoke Mukdamanee, Director of the Art Gallery, Silpakorn University, met two years ago during a traveling exhibition in an exchange program with different universities in California, the US. On that occasion, Asst. Prof. Vichoke invited me to put up a One Man Show Art Exhibition as an honor to my 60th birthday anniversary at the Art Gallery, Silpakorn University. I gladly accepted that invitation, feeling truly honored because Silpakorn University and I have a long way together as a historic institution. Senior teachers from yesteryears, as good friends today, have continuously organized art activities. On many occasions, I agreed to give art lectures. But never before have I been honored with the invitation for such a One Man Show. I spent years preparing for this exhibition because cross-country shipping of art works have to take place months ahead. In addition, there are problems involving tariff, insurance, inspection, all require substantial time and money. When the exhibition is over, lists of import and export items must match to qualify for tax exemption. Therefore, the works planned are relatively small; some created piece by piece to make it portable enough to be accompanied during air passage and subsequently assembled at the port of destination. However, major works that have been created long ago proved to be too large for the Art Gallery at Wang Na Phra Lan to accommodate. To be included in this One Man Show is therefore out of question for those outsized works. As a result, shipping for the art works does not pose too much problem as most of them are either small or medium sized suitable for this exhibition that require no shipping services. During the past two years, I had several ongoing One Man Shows in different venues in the US. Upon the end of the US season, it is time to come to Thailand. But the exhibition will come from a different collection; this makes the preparation for the exhibitions at the two venues convenient. In this exhibition, a number of retro works will be included to pave way for the students and the public who take an interest in studying this kind of art. The exhibition will also boast new collections and joined partly by some installation art. The materials used in most of the collections are mixed media involving fine arts, sculpture and graphic arts as well as terracotta wares that are suitable for the available space. Allow me to take this opportunity to thank the Director of the Art Gallery of Silpakorn University, the management team of the Art Gallery, friends, teachers, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wiwatchai Athakorn who was recently appointed rector of the University, an acquaintance I met in the US, and supporters who sponsor the printing of the programs and other printed matters. My appreciation also goes to my artist friends, and other National Artists whose contributions make My 60 Years of Tributary Exhibition a smooth undertaking and a meaningful and valuable event for me spiritually. To all of them, a heartfelt thank! Kamol Tassananchalee
