A Monumental Sculpture by Chatchai Puipia Enters the Collection of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

Wish You Were Here (2008), a monumental bronze sculpture by Thai contemporary artist Chatchai Puipia, has entered the permanent collection of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Measuring over three meters in length, the contemplative reclining figure is now installed in the museum’s revitalized Sculpture Garden. The work will be previewed on April 3, 2026, ahead of the garden’s public reopening in October 2026.

Originally produced by 100 Tonson in 2007, the sculpture was gifted to the museum by our founder, Ek-Anong (Aey) Phanachet, and together with her husband, Roger Evans. With this acquisition, Chatchai Puipia joins fellow Thai contemporary artists Rirkrit Tiravanija and Pinaree Sanpitak in the Hirshhorn Museum’s collection—each represented through works generously gifted by the couple, reflecting their enduring commitment to advancing Thai contemporary art internationally.
