AS BIG AS IT'S SMALL
Big, Small, Man, Woman, Truth and Illusion
Have you ever been amazed when people, on the same day, comment
that you are plumper and thinner?
With that question echoing in your mind, you trying to find a
hundred reasons to clarify the definition of big and small, thick
and thin.
And come to the reatisation that ... most of the time people
judge what is good, bad, big or small from the perspective of
themselves as the centre of the universe.
They judge using their perception and emotion which, sometimes,
turn out to be accurate, but are, a lot of the time, tricked
by their own instincts. They reflect one's perception of reality:
the vision's (both visual and
ideal) limitations.
Finally, people measure and evaluate things by using what they
believe and call "standards", which were set by some
"established" "institutions".
As Big As It's Small is an art exhibition which elicits a variety
of discussions -- from the shallowest to the deepest. Young Jiradaj
Meematai and Pornpitai Jongsoontornturakij, the pair who have
joined hearts and hands in this exhibition, have a lot in common
and yet share a lot of contrasts. They both have degrees in Applied
Arts. But through their creations, bring rebellious thoughts
and ideas into the Thai Arts cycle ... a cycle where: "Arts
only means painting, sculpting and printing mediums" and
that: "These three mediums are believed to be the greatest
and holiest in the world of 'Fine Arts'or in the French 'Beaux
Art'."
Existng in physical harmony as art objects, this exhibition is
tremendously varied in size -- Jiradaj's Large form sculptures,
with PornpiLai's much smatter in scale (although her jewelry
is large by conventional jewelry standards).
